In front of a large crowd on Sunday, Bacchus Marsh Football & Netball Club president,
John Connors welcomed new and returning players, coaches, supporters and sponsors to the
2007 season.
Senior Football department coaches Dion Miles (seniors), Michael Dodd (seconds) and
Clint Piggott (U18.5) presented all players with their 2007 season jumpers.
Following the presentation, the following captains and vice captains were announced.
Senior Captain: Tyson Shea
Tyson at 18 years of age is the youngest captain in our club's history. Tyson was
promoted to the senior side last year as a 17 year old and won our best and fairest award.
Tyson's football career started at the club as an under 12 player, and he has previously
captained the U12's through to the U16.5's, along with being a BFL representative side
player and BFL U16.5 captain. Tyson feels very honoured to have been appointed senior captain at
such a young age and is looking forward to a successful year ahead.
Vice Captains: Leigh Wilson & Rohan Connors
Leigh & Rohan both started their football careers at the club as under 12 players.
Rohan has previously vice captained the U12's and U14's and after spending the 2005 season
at Wedderburn returned to our club last year. Leigh and Rohan are also honoured to have been
appointed duel vice captains and are looking forward to assisting Tyson in their leadership roles.
Second's Captain: Dan Larkin
Returning to the playing field after last year on the sidelines, Dan is looking forward to the year ahead. Dan is proud to be appointed captain and his experience and leadership with a young playing list will be an asset to our club.
Vice Captains: Mat Holt & Guyran Robertson
Mat & Guyran are extremely pleased to have been appointed duel vice captains. They are both looking forward to assisting Dan and helping with the development of our second's side.
U18.5 Captain: Dylan O'Brien
Dylan joined our U16.5 side last year after playing his junior football for Darley where he was the U15 & U16 captain. Dylan feels privileged to be given the honour of captaining the side in only his second year at our club and looks forward to the season ahead.
Vice Captains: Rhys McNay & Matthew Prince
Rhys and Matthew have both played their junior football for our club.
Rhys having trained with the Western Jets last year is proud to be appointed
duel vice captain. Matthew is happy to have also been appointed duel vice
captain. Both are looking forward to assisting Dylan this season.
With last week's appointment of Frank Pawlowicz as our senior & seconds
netball coach and the appointment of Amy Reynolds and Sarah McGuigan as duel
coaches of our U18.5 side, we eagerly await the announcement of netball senior,
second's and U18.5 captains and vice captains.

Bacchus Marsh Receives Grant for Netball Court
Minister for Sport and Recreation James Merlino announced a $44,000 grant,
to be distributed between Bacchus Marsh Football and Netball Club and Dunstown
Football and Netball Club, towards the construction of a new multi-purpose
tennis and netball court.
The announcement was made in Bacchus Marsh with the Minister being
accompanied by the VCFL CEO, Glen Scott, the Netball Victoria President, Jenny
Sanchez, Former AFL Star Jason McCartney, and State League Netball representatives,
Julie Prendergast (Kestrels) and Sarah Wall (Phoenix).
The Mayor, Di McAuliffe, introduced the Minister to group of people, which
included Media representatives from TV and newspapers.
Mr Merlino said, "The ongoing success of country football and netball
clubs is vital to regional communities."
"Sports clubs are great places for communities to get together, get active
and have fun. These grants will help improve facilities across rural and regional
Victoria and encourage locals to take part in physical activities, which is
what our 'Go for your life' campaign is all about."
The funding is part of the $10 million Country Football and Netball Program,
a joint Victorian Government and AFL initiative.
Jenny Sanchez said the funding came at a critical time, as country clubs
face challenging times.
"Netball and Football Clubs are the heart of rural communities and this
funding secures the long term future of our facilities and safe sporting environments
for our children", Jenny said.
The Victorian Government and the Moorabool Shire Council will fund the
construction of the multipurpose court. The Bacchus Marsh Football and Netball Club,
and the Bacchus Marsh Lawn Tennis Club will pick up any financial short fall.
Construction will commence shortly. The shire council has appointed a Project
Manager. The BMF&NC, with the help of the Park Management Committee headed
by Russell Hendry, will be working closely with the council to have this project
completed in time for the first home game on April 28th.
Once again thanks goes to Marnee Pigott for the magnificent work she has
contributed too achieving this grant. Also thanks to the Moorabool Shire Council
for their support and in particular Angela Fumberger.
The President

Lew Lehuray wins the Keith Lawrence Service Award
Each year the Ballarat Football League award the
Keith Lawrence Service Award to a person who has rendered outstanding service
to the Ballarat Football League and/or its Club/s, and where it is determined
that they have provided outstanding service.
The joint winners of the 2006 Keith Lawrence Service Award are Lew Lehuray
from Bacchus Marsh, and Neil Robe from the Golden Point Junior Football Club.
The Bacchus Marsh Football & Netball Club inc. are extremely proud of
Lew's achievements, and the recognition by the BFL board of directors is a just
reward to Lew for the years of unselfish work he has given our club. Lew Lehuray
has, and still is an integral part of football in our community and beyond.
Lew came to Bacchus Marsh with the PMG (Telstra), in the early 1960's, after
playing football with Redan. He joined the Maddingley football club playing
there until retirement. However, he has never given football away. In 1969 he
started junior football in Bacchus Marsh, coaching Maddingley's under 16's in
scratch matches with other teams. In 1970, the first official under 16's
competition started in the Bacchus Marsh Football League with Lew coaching the
Maddingley boys to one of several premierships. In 1973 Lew was given the task
of coaching the first under 16 inter-league team in the Ballarat & Bacchus
Marsh Football League, winning two of the three games.
Not long after Maddingley and Bacchus Marsh merged in 1978, Lew became
treasurer of the club in 1981, a position he held for 16 years, as well as being
the official timekeeper, a position he still carries out today. Also from his
elevated position, he has become an unofficial umpire's adviser!!
Lew was awarded a Life Membership with the Maddingley Football Club in 1972
for his years of outstanding service as a player, coach and committee person.
The Bacchus Marsh Football Club inc. recognised his continued loyal service
with the same honour in 1991. The Ballarat Football League felt that Lew's years
of unselfish dedication to football for his club and throughout the league made
him a worthy winner of the Keith Lawrence Service Award.

New Coach & Players!
What an exciting night for the Bacchus Marsh Football Club! Last
Friday night saw the introduction of the new head coach Dion Miles,
and the clubs newest player recruits.
It was clear the club had turned a major corner for the future with
the large turnout of current players, committee members and even some
of the loyal supporter base.
Dion was welcomed with much anticipation over the possibilities for
the future. With such a great crop of current young players and the
addition of the new recruits, BMFC is eagerly anticipating the coming
preseason and the 2007 BFL season.
It has been a tough time for the recruiting panel at the club. Over
the past four months they have been working tirelessly to find the best
suiting players and coaches for BMFC.
Thanks must also go out to John Connors for his efforts in an
extremely hard first year as president.
Over the next few weeks the club will be releasing more details of
recruited players and coaches.

Nick Suban wins U16.5 Robert Allan Medal
The Robert Allan Medal is awarded to the player judged by all Clubs
to have the potential to possibly play at an elite level, either the
VFL or AFL football.
The award is determined on the following criteria
- Each coach from each grade will vote 3, 2, 1 for the best opposing
player they have coached against this year.
- Players will be awarded votes for Inter-league matches played
- Umpires votes will be taken into consideration
- Ballarat Football League will talk to talent scouts at matches.
What makes this Medal so prestigious is that it is judged by all
clubs & by each players peers.
Nicholas Suban U/16.5 (Bacchus Marsh JFC)
Nick Suban's contribution to the Bacchus Marsh Junior Football Club has
been substantial. He is an outstanding ambassador for the football club and
everybody at the club is extremely proud of his achievements over the last
several years. For the last two years Nick has represented Victoria at the
highest level at both the Under 15 & 16 national carnivals. In 2005 his
outstanding ability was recognised when he was selected in the All Australian
Under 15 team. In addition, he has regularly represented the BFL in
representative matches. His skill and talent precedes him but it is for his
leadership qualities that sets Nick apart. He provides an excellent role model
at the club by demonstrating his desire to continually improve through a
tireless training regime and his willingness to assist in the development of
all junior players at the club. Many at the BFL consider Nick the best player
seen in junior ranks in many years, and he is regarded as a real chance to
go selected in the AFL Draft in coming years!

Nick Suban Cobra High-Flyer
After being named in the Victorian country under-16's squad,
Bacchus Marsh player Nick Suban is well on the way to reaching his
dreams of becoming an AFL footballer.
Nick participated in the under 16's NAB AFL championships in
Queensland over July 22-29.
Nick a student from St Patrick's College in Ballarat said his
selection came as a shock, but from the cobras point of view it was
just a formality after seeing his great potential.
"It felt pretty good, I as rapt about it," Suban said.
"It's an opportunity to play against some of the best footballers
in the country, and it will give me a good indication of where I am at."
"I take it pretty seriously because I am pretty competitive."
This latest honour caps off a great 12 months for the 16 year old,
who was picked for the Victorian Secondary Schools Association's
country team last year.
However, like most teenagers, the keen Saints supporter wants
the make the AFL one day. "Hopefully, I get into the AFL. But if I
don't, I want to play at the highest possible level.
My coach at the Cobras has given me a lot of confidence, and
always says to take on my opponents. I don't like losing and always
try to give everything I can each game."
